Qscale Quantum technologies for extending the range of quantum communications

Laboratoire Kastler Brossel (LKB), Université P. et M.Curie, Ecole Normale Supérieure, CNRS, France
Contact : Dr. Julien Laurat (Project Coordinator)

The quantum optics group at LKB has a recognized position on the study and manipulation of quantum fluctuations of light. It aims to demonstrate new tools for quantum information processing. In recent years, the studies focused on the generation of non-classical states with OPO (world record for EPR beam generation), on ultra-sensitive measurements below the shot noise level, on single-photon emission with nanocrystals, and on quantum memories with atomic ensembles.
LKB is coordinating the project.

Group of Applied Physics (GAP), University of Geneva, Switzerland
Contact  : Dr. Nicolas Sangouard

Group of applied physics (gap)GAP is one of the pioneers in the field of quantum communication and has expertise in all key technologies, from sources and quantum memories to single photon detection, as well as in theory to support all of these activities. Being an applied physics group, it has developed competencies for bridging the gap between fundamental research and commercialization with successful start-ups emerging from the group over the last 20 years.

Istituto Nazionale di Ottica (INO-CNR), Italy
Contact : Dr. Marco Bellini

Istituto nazionale di otticaActivities of the INO-CNR include pure and applied research programs, technological transfer, optical metrology and certification. The Quantum Optics group at INO-CNR has a world-leading expertise in the generation, manipulation, and characterization of non-classical and non-Gaussian light states, achieved by the experimental implementation of basic quantum primitives, such as addition and subtraction of single photons. A BEC on an AtomChip is available through collaboration with the European Laboratory for Non-linear Spectroscopy (LENS).

Universität des Saarlandes (UdS), Germany
Contact : Prof. Jürgen Eschner

Universität des saarlandesThe group’s research is dedicated to the study of the interaction between single ions or atoms and single photons in the context of quantum optics and quantum information processing and communication. They study controlled single-photon emission and absorption, employing a double ion trap apparatus and a narrowband SPDC source of entangled photon pairs.

Institute of Photonic Sciences (ICFO), Spain
Contact  : Prof. Hugues de Riedmatten

Institute of photonic sciences (icfo)The Quantum Photonics with Solids and Atoms group is a new research group formed in September 2010 at ICFO in Barcelona. It will perform experiments to investigate the quantum connection between single photon quantum bits and atomic ensembles, implemented with rare-earth ion doped solids and cold atomic gases. The group has a thorough expertise in experimental quantum communication and quantum memories, both with cold atomic gases and rare-earth doped crystals.

Quanta System (QuantaS), Italy
Contact : quanta quantasystem.com

Quanta System has been founded in 1985 by Angelo Ferrario, at that time director of the optoelectronic division of CISE. The company’s original main activity is the development of custom lasers for R&D laboratories and university groups. Over the 90’s, the company has also developed industrial and medical product line. It is nowadays one of the major companies in the world with a deep expertise in laser and electronic development.
